چکیده
Twent~-two patients with atrial septal defect (ostium secundum type and amua venosus) were studied by echucardiography before and after surgery. The sizes of the various heart chambers right and left ventricles, Ieft atrium and aortic root and the interventricular seprum and the left ventricular posterior free wall (motion and thickness) were analvsed and compared in the pre and postoperative period. A significant reduction o size L)f the right ventricle and a normalizanon of the left ventricular dimension in the early postoperative evaluation was found. The paradoxical motion of the interventricular septum seen in the preoperative period sliowed ao earlv trend toward normalization. The changes before and after surgery are d scussed, particu larly for the interventricular septum.

Do patients over 40 years of age benefit from surgical closure of atrial septal defects?
OBJECTIVE To determine the value of surgical closure of atrial septal defects in patients over 40 years of age. METHODS Retrospective analysis of 76 patients (63 women, 13 men), age range 40-62 years (mean (SD) 45.8 (5.1) years), who underwent surgical repair of atrial septal defect. Pre- and postoperative clinical status (New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class) was assessed, and ...

This study examines the clinical and surgical outcome of a group of 55 patients (mean age 33 years) with secundum atrial septal defect who underwent surgical repair of this defect between 1981 and 1990. A group of 25 of these patients underwent late echocardiographic follow-up. Fifty-two patients underwent repair by direct suturing and three by patch closure. Surgical mortality was nil. There w...
متن کاملCupping of the left atrial disc: a new echocardiographic pointer towards atrial septal defect-device mismatch.
We report a case of percutaneous atrial septal defect closure (ASD) in which, despite careful device selection and successful shunt closure, a number of adverse echocardiographic features developed, necessitating surgical extraction of the device and patch closure of the defect. Lessons regarding case selection, device choice, appropriate follow-up and recognition of adverse echocardiographic f...
متن کاملسپتوستومی دهلیزی با راهنمایی اکوکاردیوگرافی: گزارش هشت بیمار
Background: Balloon atrial septostomy is an emergent procedure in pediatric cardiology. Nowadays, most patients in need of the procedure have acceptable outcomes after surgical repair. Thus, it is important to perform this procedure as safe as possible. By performing early arterial switch operation and prostaglandin infusion, the rate of balloon atrial septostomy has markedly decreased. Howeve...
متن کاملAtrial septal defect in adults: the influence of age and haemodynamic parameters on the results of surgical repair.
INTRODUCTION Indications for closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) are well established in children but still unclear in adult patients. There is also a discrepancy regarding the natural history of the defect and benefits of ASD closure and long-term prognosis. AIM The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcome of surgical closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) with respect to age and select...
